Why My Work Matters
Greek life is under attack, and for good reason. The public perception of sorority life is that it's an exclusive club where people pay for their friends and all have to look the same. The public perception is this way for a reason, this is the image sororities have been putting out for years. For a long time, a lot of it was true, but that has changed now. Sororities are philanthropic sisterhoods that push their members to be their best selves, but they're not putting these images into the world.
Now, more than ever, it is vital sororities properly advertise their organizations. Abolish Greek Life movements are popping up on campuses all over the country, and HBO is about to come out with a documentary "exposing" recruitment at the University of Alabama. My work directly confronts these misconceptions.
My sorority experience has been the highlight of my college career. I have gained sisters, made meaningful impacts in the world, and grown as a person. I want others to have the same experience I was fortunate enough to, and I believe my work is the first step towards that.
